Repair, Heal, and Resolve
Through Family Therapy

Whether you're a family of two or a family of ten, perhaps with younger or adult children, family therapy provides a way to approach difficult discussions and effectively address the issues that may be tearing your family apart.

Families struggle when someone is troubled. Perhaps there is a problem within the family, in school, or with friends. Or maybe your child is withdrawn, depressed, anxious, defiant, self-harming or has behavioral issues. Perhaps something has happened to your family such as a death, divorce, marriage or move.

You’re worried about your family and have tried everything to help but nothing has worked. The deeper issues are sometimes learned about within the family itself. That’s where family therapy can help. While shame and fear might seem to protect a family, families find resolve and restoration when they seek therapy and begin talking openly and honestly.

How Family Therapy Works

It's very common if you and your family feel uncertain about starting family therapy. The question is, if you don't start now, how much longer can you endure the problem and what are the chances that the issue will be resolved on its own?

I will begin by asking each family member to define the problem in their own understanding. Then we will look at the detailed history of the issue, who and what has been most/least affected by it, and unsuccessful attempts to help resolve or reduce the issue. We' may focus on:

  • Family strengths and structure

  • Generational history

  • Parenting styles

  • Relationships and rules within your family

  • Family communication styles

  • Repeated patterns and cycles

Once I have a thorough understanding about your family and how it functions, I will breakdown the components that seem to be contributing to the underlying issue so we can successfully rebuild together to create your healthier family unit.

How I Can Be of Help

My formal training in Structural Family Therapy through the Minuchin Institute for the Family, coupled with my experience as the Director of a child and adolescent crisis program at Bellevue Hospital, has provided me with the experience to provide exemplary services for your family.

Helping families in immediate need is my priority. My work with your family is aimed at helping everyone to feel and do better, reconnect, repair and resolve, and establishing a balanced foundation for your family.

In our work together, I will help your family by:

  1. Providing empathy and relating to your family struggles as a whole.

  2. Aligning with each family member and building rapport so everyone feels safe, supported and can trust me, our shared space and the process.

  3. Exploring how the problem began and how it remains to exist.

  4. Learning where the true problem may be.

  5. Identifying ideas that will help work towards resolution with a goal towards lasting change.

  6. Teaching family members new and different ways of listening and communicating with one another.

  7. Clarifying misunderstandings and presumptions which may have existed for years.

  8. Helping parents to fully understand their child and the issues at hand.

  9. Allowing family members to share personal and intimate details while feeling heard and safe in my presence.

  10. Teaching effective parenting skills and techniques to help manage unwanted behaviors.
